Spectra of photons emitted in the backward hemisphere in interaction of 5-GeV/c. pi. /sup -/ mesons with carbon nuclei

Photographs of the one-meter propane bubble chamber bombarded by 5-GeV/c ..pi../sup -/ mesons have been used to check the universality of the structure function f= (sigma/sub tot/)/sup -1/ x (E/p/sup 2/) (d/sup 2/sigma/dpd..cap omega..) for protons emitted in the backward hemisphere in the lab in the reaction ..pi../sup -/C..-->..p/sup spin-down/+... . It follows from the experimental data that it is necessary to introduce an angular dependence in the parametrization of the structure function. Results are given for the best of the trial parametrizations, f =A/sub 0/ exp(-(A/sub 1/+A/sub 2/ cos/sup 2/theta) p/sup 2/). (AIP)
