Multi-purpose semi-submersible designed for offshore maintenance

A dynamically-positioned semi-submersible support vessel--Uncle John--is under construction by the Aker Group and is the first vessel to be designed and built specifically for offshore maintenance and construction support. The Uncle John is owned by Comex Services and the shipowners Houlder Offshore and will be used for general offshore oilfield maintenance and in particular pipeline and riser connections and repair; platform inspections and repairs; subsea completions; fire fighting; diving support; and single-point mooring installation and maintenance.
