Sohio (Standard Oil Co. (Ohio)) line gets federal right-of-way

U.S. Secretary of the Interior C. D. Andrus has approved the issuance to Sohio of a federal right-of-way for 50 mi of new pipeline construction across federal land in California, Arizona, and New Mexico on the route of a proposed Sohio crude line from Long Beach, Calif., to Midland, Tex. Only 238 mi of the proposed line would require new construction since Sohio plans to reverse the flow of an existing 669 mi natural gas line and convert it to handle crude. In Nov. 1977, the Federal Government approved abandonment of the existing gas line, which runs from Jal, N.M., to Ehrenberg, Ariz. No construction permit will be issued to Sohio until the company has complied with requirements of all permitting agencies. Sohio's proposed Long Beach marine terminal, where tankers would offload Alaskan oil, requires authorization from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and several other federal, state, and local agencies.
