Startup of El Paso's Algeria I LNG project

The project involves the importation of the LNG equivalent of 1 billion cu ft/day of Algerian natural gas from Sonatrach to the U.S. east coast: 650 million cu ft/day to Cove Point, Md., including 350 million cu ft/day to Consolidated System LNG Co., and another 350 million cu ft/day will be delivered to Southern Energy Corp.'s Elba Island (Ga.) terminal. The major events that have occurred leading to and during the startup of the project are described, including the purchase by El Paso Marine Co. of three 125,000 cu m LNG carriers from France; the first delivery of LNG to Cove Point on 3/15/78 by the Vertical Bar3Vertical BarEl Paso Sonatrach.
