Superconvergent sum rules and a multipole analysis of pion photoproduction on nucleons

The results of a multipole analysis of pion photoproduction on nucleons are used to investigate the validity of superconvergent sum rules. The anomalous magnetic moments of the nucleon are found to have the values kappa/sup S/ = -0.06 - 0.14 and kappa/sup P/ = 1.97 +- 0.15. It is shown that the total contribution of a large number of resonances differs little from the contribution of the single P/sub 33/(1232) resonance. The amplitudes for photoproduction of the P/sub 33/(1232) and F/sub 37/(1925) resonances are found to satisfy the relations E/sub 1*//M/sub 1*/ = -(M-m)/(3M+m) approx. =-0.063 and A/sub 3/sup +///B/sub 3/sup +// = -3m/2M approx. =% -0.73, in agreement with experiment.
