Inelastic scattering of protons by medium-weight nuclei at low energies

Absolute cross sections have been measured for the (p,p'..gamma..) reaction in the nuclei /sup 46/ /sup 48/Ti, /sup 51/V, /sup 50/ /sup 52/ /sup 53/ /sup 54/Cr, /sup 56/ /sup 57/ /sup 58/ Fe, /sup 59/Co, /sup 61/ /sup 62/N, /sup 63/ /sup 65/Cu, /sup 64/ /sup 66/ /sup 67/ /sup 68/ /sup 70/Zn, and /sup 74/ /sup 76/ /sup 77/ /sup 78/ /sup 80/Se for E/sub p/ < 3 MeV. The experimental cross sections are analyzed according to the statistical theory with inclusion of the contribution of Coulomb excitation. It is shown that the statistical theory and Coulomb excitation correctly describe the absolute values and energy dependence of the cross sections. A significant increase in the relative contribution of Coulomb excitation to the (p,p'..gamma..) cross section is noted above the threshold of the (p,n) reaction.
