Trillion-dollar dividend. [Utility competition]

Journal Article · · Public Util. Fortn.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7121134
A lower cost for fiber optics and savings from the coupling of electric power and telecommunications will provide a substantial economic benefit to consumers. Public utilities will be able to compete with each other because of the breakup of the Bell System. Electric companies will challenge telephone companies with load management schemes that float price signals to customers during peak and off-peak periods. Electric utilities can become more flexible and aggressive in this way and in their linkup with small-scale power suppliers and their capacity to wheel electric power to where it is needed. Cheaper electric power will help the economy and increase productivity.
