Broad use capability combined cycle gas turbine systems
In conjunction with continuing development of the new 10,000 hp range Mars gas turbine and also the 4000 hp range Centaur, Solar has been actively designing new concept combined cycle systems to improve the overall thermal efficiency of gas turbines. This program has taken two paths of development: (1) conventional heat recovery utilization in combination with gas turbine generated power in various industrial areas where heat recovery can be effectively used. This is an application area that can be immediately served, since conventional hardware is available; and (2) secondly, the development of new concept heat recovery equipment and steam turbines to provide a combined cycle gas turbine-steam turbine system that will produce very high thermal efficiency in a practical powerplant configuration.
