Gas turbine orders for industrial cogeneration or CHP projects in Europe are booming. Independent companies as well as utilities are taking active roles in this expanding market. In the Netherlands, ever since the first oil crisis of 1973, the government has sought to bolster energy efficiency to prolong the availability of indigenous gas reserves both for domestic consumption and export. This article describes turbine designs for efficiency and environmental friendliness, and the general structure of the cogeneration industry.
