Low tension waterflood pilot at the Salem Unit, Marion County, Illinois. I. Field implementation and results
The Benoist sand reservoir (17.9 percent porosity, 150 md permeability) of the Salem field, Marion County, Illinois was waterflooded prior to the low tension waterflood treatment. The projected ultimate tertiary oil recovery is 14 percent OIP, which is not sufficient to warrant expansion of the pilot test. The tertiary recovery treatment consisted of a fresh water (Lake Carlyle) preflush containing sodium carbonate to precipitate divalent ions, a light brine containing sodium carbonate and a sacrificial inorganic chemical (sodium tripolyphosphate), a surfactant slug (Petronate TRS 10-80, a petroleum sulfonate, in a solution identical to the light brine preflush), a polymer flood containing Kelzan MF, and Salem field injection brine as a drive fluid.
