Soluble oil composition. [83. 8% recovery]

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7299605

An oil-external microemulsion was used for tertiary oil recovery. Petronate CR (mixed alkyl aryl petroleum monosulfonate), Illinois crude oil (gravity 39/sup 0/ API), 4 percent water, and butyl Cellosolve (ethylene glycol monobutyl ether) were combined to form the microemulsion. Six-foot packs of Nevada 130 sand were first saturated with water and then with the Illinois crude. Brine was used to waterflood the packs. The microemulsion slug, followed by an aqueous polymer flood (Pusher 500), and driven by a brine recovered 83.8 percent OIP after waterflooding.
