As of December 1, 1973, the Maraflood test--119-R in Robinson County, Illinois--had recovered more than one-third of the estimated oil in place after waterflooding and has a remaining life of one to two years. The test, covering forty acres, is Marathon Oil Company's largest micellar flood project. The surfactant used in the micellar slug was a mixture of petroleum sulfonates manufactured by Marathon and of commercially available sulfonates. Primary amyl alcohol was the cosurfactant and lease crude was used as the hydrocarbon constituent. Dow Polymer 700 solution was injected after the micellar slug. Marathon engineers estimated residual oil in place after waterflooding to be 600,000 bbl. As of December 1, 1973, 225,000 bbl had been recovered and the project is expected to continue another one or two years.
