Behavior of titanium in mixtures of perchloric and hydrochloric acids

Journal Article · · Prot. Met. (USSR) (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7091961
Experimental data are cited which characterize the corrosion and electrochemical behavior of titanium in pure solutions of perchloric acid and a mixture of it with hydrochloric acid. It is shown that the complex dependence of the rate of corrosion of titanium in solutions containing perchloric and hydrochloric acids is due to the simultaneous manifestation of acid and oxidizing properties of perchloric acid. A mechanism of the participation of ClO/sup -//sub 4/ ions in the cathodic process is disclosed. 4 figures, 1 table.
