Structural transformation in some Chevrel phase compounds: ZnMo/sub 5/S/sub 6/, ZnMo/sub 5/Se/sub 6/, and Cu/sub 0/ /sub 7/Mo/sub 3/Se/sub 4/

Journal Article · · Mater. Res. Bull.; (United States)
Low temperature x-ray powder diffraction and electrical resistivity experiments show that the Chevrel phase compounds ZnMo/sub 5/S/sub 6/, ZnMo/sub 5/Se/sub 6/ and Cu/sub 0.7/Mo/sub 3/Se/sub 4/ are structurally unstable near or below room temperature. The binary compounds Mo/sub 3/S/sub 4/, Mo/sub 3/Se/sub 4/ and Mo/sub 3/Te/sub 4/ are stable to 6/sup 0/K.
