Method of destructively distilling carbonaceous fuels
Patent

OSTI ID:7089593
A process is described for destructively distilling material taken from the class consisting of normally solid and liquid carbonaceous materials which yield substantial amounts of volatile products upon distillation. The process comprises exothermic hydrogenation of a carbon compound under an elevated temperature and pressure conditions to produce a gaseous mixture containing reaction products and unreacted gases. The hot compressed gaseous mixture is withdrawn and contacted with the carbonaceous material to be destructively distilled to impart the heat and pressure requisite for effecting destructive distillation. The carbonaceous material is obtained from a source independent of this reaction.
