Method and apparatus for distilling shale

An oil shale distilling apparatus incorporating a gas-producer is described. A feed-hopper is provided having a plurality of retort pipes each of relatively small cross-sectional area hanging from it into the producer, reciprocating the feed in the retort pipes. A gas outlet from the producer chamber and a vapor-line connected to the upper portions of the retort pipes are provided.
