Comparative data are presented on germanium extraction from tar with ammonia liquor in mechanical mixers and column mixers with sieve plates, in the chemical purification unit at a coking plant. Column mixers raise the germanium recovery rate by 8.0 to 10.2%; the tar settles out more rapidly after treatment and its residual moisture content is 1.0 to 1.5% lower.
