Six witnesses spoke at a July 28, 1980 hearing in Indiana to examine DOE's policies on the use of gasohol. The hearing was a response to a controversial report by the Energy Research Advisory Board which favors coal-based methanol over grain-based ethanol. The speakers critiqued the report in terms of the objectivity of its content, the way it was issued, the role of the Federal advisory committees, and possible violations of the Federal Advisory Committee Act. Among the issues raised were representation on the board and the bureaucratic problems caused when funding is split between DOE and the Department of Agriculture. The hearing report includes these statements and additional materials submitted for the record. (DCK)
