Energy conservation at Tenneco adds up to millions, billions and trillions

Tenneco Chemicals has achieved energy-conseration goals far above current government standards. Innovations and improvements in plant housekeeping and maintenance, capital investment in equipment and methods, and an on-going employee promotional program have made the big difference. Tenneco's energy-conservation program was above expectations for the first six months of 1977. The total energy savings breaks down to: 3.4 million gallons of fuel oil; 12 million kW/h of electricity; and over 1.1 billion ft/sup 3/ of natural gas. This represents an energy saving of 17% over 1972, which is the base comparison year used by FEA. Additional savings because of startups of new-energy conserving equipment and processes will continue to come on stream and yield savings into 1978 and beyond.
