Each engineering firm has its own vapor piping sizing criteria. Some are based on fluid velocity and others are based on pressure drop per 100 feet of pipe. Here equations and graphs are derived for estimating optimum vapor line size based on minimum cost. Both operating and capital cost are considered. Analysis is based on a compressor discharge piping, but the results can be applied to any vapor lines designed for minimizing pressure drop.
