This paper studies the role of halogen in processes of adsorption of halo-substituted aliphatic compounds on platinum. Monochloroacetic acid (MA) was selected as the object of investigation. The radioisotope method was used and preparations of the acid possessed either a label C 14 in the carboxyl group or a labeled chloride atom C1 36. The dependencies of the adsorption of acetic acid and MA, labeled on the carbon, on the potential of a platinized platinum electrode, are presented. It was shown that the presence of chlorine in an organic molecule leads to the fact that the adsorption product of MA in a wide range of potentials is a mixture of particles consisting of chemisorbed particles and anion-like particles, the proportion of wich in this mixture increases when the electrode potential is shifted in the anodic direction.
