Part 1 of this book, which consists of four chapters, deals with theoretical perspectives. Chapters 1 and 2 present some rudimentary concepts of the allocation of water. Chapter 3 looks at multinational corporations and the extension of national jurisdiction over ocean resources to 200 nautical miles. Chapter 4 discusses problems associated with estimating energy requirements for agriculture. The remaining 5 chapters are case histories intended to illustrate the applications of the theoretical concepts that were introduced in Part 1 of the book, an include a discussion of water development in India, management of the Hawaiian coastal zone, and the use of bagasse in Hawaii as fuel for the generation of electricity.
