Polarographic study of mixed-ligand complexes of cadmium with 2,2'-dipyridyl and hydroxyethylidenediphosphonic acid

Measurements were made of the dependence of of the reduction of Cd/sup 2 +/ (10/sup -4/ M) in the presence of HEDPA, the concentration of which was maintained constant and equal to 5.10/sup -3/, 7.10/sup -3/, and 1.10/sup -2/ M and 2,2'-dipyridyl, the content of which in solution varied from 1.25ha10/sup -4/ to 1.57ha10/sup -2/ M at each HEDPA concentration. The results of the calculation show that in the system Cd/sup 2 +/ -HEDPA-2,2'-dipyridyl, three mixed complexes are formed, with stoichiometric ratio 1:1:1, 1:2:1, and 1:1:2. The mixed-ligand complexes are more stable than the individual complexes of cadmium (II) with HEDPA and 2,2'-dipyridyl, with the exception of the complex (Cd(dipy)/sub 3/)/sup 2 +/.
