Patent ·
OSTI ID:7058680

This patent describes a gas purification system, comprising: a vessel comprising a housing defining and positioned about a vertical axis, conduits connected to and communicating with the housing, the conduits including a gas inlet, a gas outlet, an adsorber inlet and an adsorber outlet. The gas inlet comprises a downwardly facing gas inlet positioned at an angle of inclination ranging from about 30/sup 0/ to about 90/sup 0/ relative to horizontal axis for feeding and directing the flow of influent gases generally downwardly through the housing, an annular frustoconical adsorber collection reservoir positioned within the housing; sulfur oxide and particulate removal balls located in the reservoir, inclined chutes, and housing for simultaneously removing a substantial portion of particulates and sulfur oxides from a gaseous stream in the housing; and the sulfur oxide and particulate removal balls including a bed of sulfur oxide-capturing and particulate-removing balls selected from the group consisting essentially of adsorbers and adsorbers with at least one promoter thereon.
