Nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, and particulate removal system

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5011372

This patent describes a gas purification system, comprising: a substantially vertical vessel having a top portion, a bottom portion, an intermediate portion extending between and connecting the top and bottom portions. An absorber inlet is connected to and communicates with the top portion for feeding a substantially nonmagnetic sulfur oxide-capturing and particulate-removing material generally downwardly into the vertical vessel. A bed of nonmagnetic sulfur oxide-capturing and particulate-removing material is positioned in the lower portion for simultaneously removing a substantial portion of particulates and sulfur oxides from an influent gaseous stream in the absence of an induced electromagnetic field. An absorbent outlet extends downwardly from the bottom portion and a conduit providing a gas inlet line extends downwardly into the top portion. The conduit has a downwardly facing discharge mouth providing an outlet for feeding an influent gaseous stream containing particulates, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides, substantially downwardly into the bed of nonmagnetic sulfur oxide-capturing and particulate-removing material.
