Chemically heated tool for removal of paraffin

Patent ·
OSTI ID:7057695
Chemical heating equipment is used in heat treating oil well tubing to melt and remove paraffin, asphaltic deposits and other heat soluble hydrocarbons which tend to build up along the inner part of the tubing during the pumping of oil. In this tool, both the chemical and liquid are contained in a single chamber, with the chemical enclosed in a capsule which will dissolve after an interval of time. When the capsule dissolves, the chemical and water make contact with each other and produce chemical heat reaction in the chamber. A plurality of chemical capsules extend along substantially the entire length of the heat radiation against the oil well tubing. The gelatin capsules are filled with granulated caustic soda and aluminum alloy. The liquid in the chamber is water. (10 claims)
