Solid paraffin-like hydrocarbon materials deposited on the surfaces of oil-well production equipment are removed by contacting th solid deposits with certain hydrolyzable, aprotic, halogenated organic materials, such as allyl chloride. The halogenated organic compound containing the dissolved or peptized paraffin is then removed from the equipment and conducted to a vessel containing water or a base dissolved in water. (6 claims)
