New Los Angeles field produces oil

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7057451
Standard Oil Co. of California has 3 wells in its unnamed downtown Los Angeles oil field flowing into a recently completed crude-oil line and has begun a gas- repressuring program with the fourth well. The first 3 wells were flowing 35$ gravity oil at rates between 250 and 300 bpd. The Fourteenth and Broadway field is the easternmost discovery in a 7-mile trend of new fields extending from the center of the Los Angeles metropolitan area westward into the edge of Beverly Hills. While only one other discovery has been announced recently, reports of successful core-hole drilling indicate other discoveries are expected. Discoveries already reported have brought estimates of reserves from the current downtown boom as high as 150,000,000 bbl. If any of the present hot prospects prove commercial when drilled, they will add significantly to this figure.
