Inert gas helps recover attic oil

Updip oil, left in place after wells ''watered out'' in the Bayou des Glaise Field, Iberville Parish, La., is being recovered through injection of gas from an inert unit. After 4 yr, Humble Oil and Refining Co. has concluded that a noncorrosive gas can be obtained from a combined stream of gas-compressor-engine exhaust and inert generator gas. This gas can be compressed to high pressures for injection into oil reservoirs. Results show that additional oil recovery is approximately the same when injecting inert gas as when injecting natural gas. A flow sheet of the inert gas-generator-installation schematic flow is presented and described.
