Texaco exploits reservoir attics

Texaco Inc. is going after oil trapped in the attics of 2 steeply dipping reservoirs in Iberia field, Iberia Parish, Louisiana. The target of the project is oil updip from the highest producing wells in the Gralino ''A'' and Bullock-Burge sands in one of the fault blocks surrounding the salt dome responsible for the field's existence, as shown by a geologic cross section. Texaco's main goal in the venture is conservation. By injecting gas, updip oil will be displaced downdip for recovery from structurally lower wells. This eliminates the risk of drilling wells at the top of the structure, where the chances of missing the reservoir are greater. In the Bullock-Burke sand reservoir, gas will be injected into an existing updip well and produced through a proposed well further downdip. Texaco is conserving natural gas by displacing the oil with an inert-gas mixture. The 660-hp inert-gas generator will produce about 1.33 MMcfd at near 3,500 psi. The company feels that recovery from the reservoir will be increased by about 10% through the attic-recovery project.
