Pion-nucleus inelastic scattering with excitation of particle-hole states

Journal Article · · Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

Pion-nucleus inelastic scattering with low energy transfer is treated by field-theory methods. The particle-hole correlations are separated from the other pion-nucleus interaction effects in the scattering amplitude. This makes it possible to determine the characteristics of the amplitude for scattering of a pion from a bound nucleon by analyzing data on elastic and inelastic processes involving ..pi../sup +/ and ..pi../sup -/ mesons. The applicability of the theory of finite Fermi systems to this problem is discussed.
