The authors have examined the conditions for making /sup 123/I with the LU-100 linear accelerator at the Institute of High-Energy Physics, Protvino. The authors measured the excitation functions of (p, 3n) and (p, 5n) for sodium iodide exposed to protons of initial energy 100 MeV and determined the yield and purity of the /sup 123/I obtained on isolating /sup 123/Xe on line. The activities of /sup 123/Xe and /sup 125/Xe were determined from the gamma intensities. A gamma spectrometer was used with a Ge(LI) detector and 4096-channel analyzer with the ETAP program for the ES 10-10 computer. The areas under the peaks referred to the end of irradiation were used with the decay data and the detector efficiency, as well as the measurement time and geometry, to calculate the formation cross sections for /sup 123/Xe and /sup 125/Xe and the yields of /sup 123/I and /sup 125/I.
