Low-temperature specific heat of UBe/sub 13/

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7047013

The specific heats (C) of the heavy-fermion superconductors, CeCu/sub 2/Si/sub 2/, UPt/sub 3/ and UBe/sub 13/, show significant sample-to-sample variations in both the normal and superconducting states. Measurements of C are reported here for four polycrystalline samples of UBe/sub 13/ of differing quality, gauged by transition temperature (T/sub c/) and width (deltaT/sub c/). There is a strong correlation of C/sub s//T at T = 0 with T/sub c/ and deltaT/sub c/. The data also give some information on extrapolation of C/sub n/ to T = 0.
