Pollution prevention: Meeting the environmental challenges of the 1990s. Region 5 fy 91 accomplishments

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7041576
Passage of the Pollution Prevention Act of 1990, mandating development of a nationwide pollution prevention strategy, occurred simultaneously with increased pollution prevention awareness across Region 5 program activities. The Act established a hierarchy for environmental management with source reduction as the preferred strategy, and with recycling, pollution control and treatment, and waste disposal, following in descending order. As pollution prevention is rapidly becoming an integral part of Agency programs, source reduction and recycling approaches are being utilized throughout the Region, within and across media.
