Detection of the (S III) 33. 47 micron line in the Orion nebula

A strong detection of the 33 ..mu..m infrared forbidden line of S III from the Trapezium region of the Orion Nebula is reported. The current observations indicate a wavelength of 33.47 +- 0.02 ..mu..m for the line, which is within 0.03 ..mu..m of Greenberg's predicted wavelength. When combined with a measurement of the (S III) 18.71 ..mu..m line, an e;ectron density of approx.9000 cm/sup -3/ is deduced if a simple uniform density model is assumed for the emitting region. This density is similar to the results of other line ratio results.
