Oxygen scavenging from a utility perspective

Conference ·
OSTI ID:7037732

The chemical removal of dissolved oxygen from feedwater entering into utility boilers is essential in reducing preboiler corrosion, boiler scale deposit and the transport of impurities in the steam cycles. Maintaining oxygen removal equipment such as condensers and deaerators, coupled with a proper chemical treatment program through the use of oxygen scavengers, will help preserve the internals of the entire circuit. In addition, utility operators must also be aware of off-line system protection. It is the intent of this paper to address a major utility's strategy for minimizing oxygen corrosion and thereby increasing unit reliability and availability.
