Feedwater line corrosion

Conference · · Proc. Am. Power Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6982715

A review of boiler tube failures throughout the US utility industry concluded that ingress of feedwater line corrosion products was the most frequent contributor to boiler tube corrosion. A project undertaken to determine the concentrations of corrosion products entering power plant steam generators and to evaluate methods for controlling boiler corrosion is described. These methods included the use of resin beds to remove Fe, Cu, Ni, and Zn and the use of chemical additives such as morpholine and hydrazine to control the dissolved oxygen concentration and pH of feedwater.
