Assay for pyridoxal phosphate in 10 microliters of human venous and capillary blood plasma

Plasma pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) concentrations of venous (V), capillary (C) and V-blood drawn into a hematocrit (Hct) tube (VH) and processed exactly as the C-blood were determined by the standard (STD) or a modified micro (MCR) tyrosine apodecarboxylase procedure. Compared to the STD the MCR uses 20 times the spec. act. of /sup 14/C-tyrosine, a 40 vs 20 min reaction time and 10 vs 850 ..mu..l plasma. Conclusions indicate that STD and MCR generate equivalent values. C-plasma gives slightly higher PLP concentrations than V-plasma which may be related to packing of blood cells in the Hct tube.
