Systematic variation of magnetic-field penetration depth in high-T/sub c/ superconductors studied by muon-spin relaxation

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
The muon-spin relaxation rate sigma has been measured in the high-T/sub c/ superconductors YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub x/ for x = 6.66, 6.95, 7.0, and La/sub 1.85/Sr/sub 0.15/CuO/sub 4/ in transverse external magnetic fields approx.1--4 kG. We find a simple relation which connects transition temperature T/sub c/, the magnetic-field penetration depth lambda/sub L/, the carrier concentration n/sub s/, and the effective mass m/sup */ as T/sub c/proportionalsigmaproportional1/lambda/sub L//sup 2/proportionaln/sub s//m/sup */. The linear dependence T/sub c/proportionaln/sub s//m/sup */ suggests a high-energy scale for the coupling between superconducting carriers.
