Determination of the cross section for formation of /sup 8/Be/sub 4/ nuclei in photonuclear reactions at energy E/sub. gamma. /=1. 5--4. 5 GeV

The cross section for formation of /sup 8/Be/sub 4/ nuclei in photonuclear reactions is determined. For the average emulsion nucleus and for ..gamma.. rays in the interval E/sub ..gamma../=1.5--4.5 GeV the cross section in the energy range of /sup 8/Be/sub 4/ nuclei E-bar (/sup 8/Be/sub 4/) =10--80 MeV is found to be sigma/sub ..gamma../(/sup 8/Be/sub 4/) =0.36 +- 0.08 mb/Q. The ratio of the partial cross section to the total hadronic photo-cross-section remains constant in this range of ..gamma..-ray energy.
