We report here the synthesis of a new family of silyl complexes Np[sub 3]ZrSi(SiMe[sub 3])[sub 3] (1), Np[sub 2]Ta (= CHBu[sup t]) [Si(SiMe[sub 3])[sub 3]] (2), and Np[sub 2]W ([triple bond] CuBu[sup t]) [Si(SiMe[sub 3])[sub 3]] (4; Np = neopentyl, Bu[sup t]CH[sub 2]). These three complexes represent, to our knowledge, the first silyl alkyl, stable alkylidene, and alkylidyne compounds of early transition metals. The syntheses of these complexes in either hexanes or toluene are summarized. 10 refs., 1 fig.
