Molybdenum alkylidynes are formed in the reaction of t-Bu-C{triple_bond}P with molybdenum alkylidenes. Alkylidynes undergo a secondary thermal transformation to form 1-phospha-3-molybdacyclobut-2-enes quantitatively; Complex 3c is formed directly from the reaction of t-Bu-C{triple_bond}P with 1c. Spectral and structural characterization of complexes and mechanistic considerations will be discussed.
