Zero-valent tungsten alkylidene 1 reacts with an excess of t-BuC{triple_bond}P to form cycloadducts formally derived from the insertion of two equivalents of the phosphaalkyne to the tungsten alkylidene double bond. Bicyclic complex 2 has been isolated and characterized by spectral and structural techniques. The observed tungsten alkylidene reactivity will be discussed in light of the reported phosphaalkyne chemistry with high oxidation state molybdenum alkylidenes.
