A snubbing apparatus is described for elevating and lowering an elongated tubular structure from and into a well bore while maintaining a seal between the tubular structure and the wellhead. The tubular structure is releaseably engageable by traveling slip and traveling blowout preventer devices and by stationary slip and stationary blowout devices, alternately, to elevate and lower the tubular structure, without causing movement of the tubular structure through the closed stationary blowout preventer device.
