Gas evolution in reservoir and its effect on well productivity and well transient behavior

A gas-oil reservoir simulator was developed to study the productivity behavior of a well from the time the reservoir is above the bubble-point pressure (single-phase flow), as it goes through the bubble-point pressure (2-phase flow), and until abandonment. Other useful studies included the effect of well-bore shut-in on subsequent oil productivity, and an understanding of the role of nonuniform gas distribution on pressure buildup curve. The simulator is in r, z (cylindrical) coordinates and accounts for gravity force, capillarity, relative permeability, bubble-point pressure change, well-bore storage effect, well-bore damage, residual solubility hysteresis, and layering. Oil-water or gas-water flow also can be simulated. Simulation of the conceptual reservoirs has indicated that: (1) the simulator is reliable and is computationally efficient; and (2) it may be used as a diagnostic tool for long-term reservoir calculations as well as for short-term transient test analysis.
