A mixed valent molybdenum monophosphate with a layer structure: CsMo{sub 2}O{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2}
- Universite de Caen (France)
A new mixed valent molybdenum monophosphate CsMo{sub 2}O{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 2} has been synthesized in the form of single crystals. It crystallizes in the space group P2{sub 1}/c with a = 10.047(2) {angstrom}, b = 8.655(1) {angstrom}, c = 11.597(2) {angstrom}, {beta} = 104.27(1){degrees}. This phase exhibits an original layered structure, in which the [Mo{sub 2}P{sub 2}O{sub 11}]{sub {infinity}} layers consist of [MoPO{sub 8}]{sub {infinity}} chains connected with [MoPO{sub 7}]{sub {infinity}} chains. In the [MoPO{sub 8}]{sub {infinity}} chains, one MoO{sub 6} octahedron alternates with one PO{sub 4} tetrahedron, whereas in the [MoPO{sub 7}]{sub {infinity}} chains one MoO{sub 5} trigonal bipyramid alternates with one PO{sub 4} tetrahedron. The geometry of the MoO{sub 6} octahedra and MoO{sub 5} bipyramids is in agreement with their occupancy by Mo(V) and Mo(VI), respectively. The Cs{sup +} cations interleaved between these layers exhibit a monocapped distorted cubic coordination.
