A mixed-valent vanadium monophosphate with a chain-like structure: Ba{sub 3}V{sub 2}O{sub 3}(PO{sub 4}){sub 3}
- Univ. de Caen (France)
A new mixed-valence vanadium monophosphate with a chain-like structure has been synthesized. It crystallizes in the P2{sub 1}2{sub 1}2{sub 1} space group with a = 5.137(1), b = 12.418(1), and c = 20.724(3) {angstrom}. The structure consists of [V{sub 2}P{sub 3}O{sub 15}]{sub {infinity}} ribbons running along a, whose cohesion is ensured by Ba{sup 2+} cations. Each ribbon is built from two sorts of chains: [VPO{sub 7}]{sub {infinity}} chains, which consist of corner-sharing VO{sub 5} trigonal bipyramids and PO{sub 4} tetrahedra, and [VP{sub 2}O{sub 10}]{sub {infinity}} units are linked together by corner-sharing, so that V{sub 2}O{sub 10} units are formed. Charge ordering is observed on the vanadium species, with V(IV) in the octahedron and V(V) in the bipyramid.
