This patent describes a combustion promoter catalyst. It comprises a promoter support component comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of mullite, spinel, alpha alumina, gamma alumina, delta alumina, eta alumina, silica, alumina, silica alumina, titania, zirconia, and sand; a promoter metal carried by the promoter support component wherein the promoter metal comprises at least one member selected from the group consisting of the Group VIII metals and present in an amount of from about 10 ppm by weight to about 5000 ppm by weight of the combustion promoter catalyst.
