Book ·
OSTI ID:7010424
The various sludge treatment technologies available to municipalities are discussed in the first part of this book, including sludge characteristics, thickening, dewatering, and stabilization. Experiences in operation and performance are reviewed. Regulatory constraints are covered in detail. These technologies are then converted to practice in the second part of the book. Gives full details of a comprehensive wastewater sludge disposal study developed for a municipality. Examines and evaluates the various disposal options on the basis of cost-effectiveness, reliability, flexibility, technology, environmental impact, and public acceptance. A new methodology for quantitatively ranking alternatives is described and illustrated. (This technique also can be used effectively to evaluate various other alternative public works.)
