This paper discusses pricing of road transport fuels, which account for the bulk of all transport fuels. Although diesel and gasoline are the dominant road fuels, some countries have, at various times, encouraged the use of alternative fuels such as methanol and ethanol. According to the author, these fuels should be priced according to the same principles that guide the pricing of gasoline and diesel. Some qualifications to this are discussed.
